Y4 Homework Project for the 1ST SUMMER TERM– TROPICAL RAINFORESTS

As you know our topic is Rainforests and Jungles. To build on our topic lessons we would like you to create a jungle/rainforest scene that must show the 4 distinct layers of the jungle: floor, understorey, canopy and emergent (your children have learnt about this) and at least one animal that lives in each layer.
As with all our homework projects the children can represent this in any way that they wish. Some ideas could be: collage, rainforest in a box, paintings, drawings, sewing and model making but if your child has a better idea then that is brilliant!
Please hand in your homework projects on Monday 21st May 2018.

We will be holding a Jungle Enterprise afternoon for parents on Thursday 24th May at 2.15pm where parents will be able to see some of the class work that has gone on during this topic, as well as having the chance to buy some of the children’s creations. These will form part of the Y4 Enterprise Project to raise money to adopt an endangered animal from Marwell Zoo! You may receive something in the post soon that explains this in more detail!

Spelling and x tables homework
·        Spelling will be given on Mondays and will be tested in class on Thursdays. The test will be done in the back of the spelling book so you can keep track of how your child is doing.  We really appreciate the support you are giving your child in practicing these at home and focussing on the patterns that are being highlighted in the weekly list.
·        Tricky words will be included that don’t follow any of the pattern rules, but need to be remembered eg: what, people.
·        Homophones (words that sound the same but have a different meaning depending on their spelling) eg: their, there, they’re will also be included.

·        X tables will also be given on a Monday and these can be found in the middle of this book. These will be reviewed throughout the year and regularly tested. Your child will have received a laminated x table sheet to use at home too.

Spring Term 1 2018

We are going to have a big push on our times tables for this half of the term, especially learning your 6x, 7x, and 8x tables.
We will keep putting good games for you to play here and don't forget to play your Times Table Rock Stars game too.
Helpful hints:
Do use the large times table sheet we sent home with you last term to help.
Play games with other members of your family eg:
Who can say a times table you choose quickest, backwards or out of order.
Practice them when you are in the car and any other time you remember.
Remember and share rhymes eg:
I ate and I ate till I was sick on the floor
Eight times eight is 64!

Well done with keeping up with the practice it will really help your maths!

Roman Homework details to be released soon....

Autumn 2 - Y4 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Homework Project

We have finally arrived at the point in the story where Charlie and the other children have discovered ‘The Inventing Room’…

INVENT YOUR OWN SWEET

So, what we would like the children to do is get inventing and come up with a brand new item of confectionary ready for Christmas ….sweet, chocolate, lolly... absolutely anything… any flavour, any colour, any size!
Like our Egypt homework project, there are no rules- the children can draw, make, model, colour, paint, design, stitch, use IT or even cook their new addition to the Wonka Range! The sweet must have a name, a description of ingredients and who it is for… and it must be linked to the Festive Season!

The date for their projects to be brought to school is Monday 11th December which gives the children 3 weeks to come up with something amazing so we can show them off in the run up to Christmas.

Autumn 1 - Y4 Homework Project, SEPTEMBER 2017 – Enigmatic Egyptians

Following on from our great trip to the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester we wanted to launch the Y4 homework project for this term.
We would like the children to choose and create one of the following:
An Egyptian Death Mask (we are all familiar with the one pictured right of Tutankhamun)
They can use paint, clay, fabric, cardboard… indeed anything that they can think of –  it can be 2D or 3D…there are no rules!

OR

Their very own Egyptian sarcophagus in which they can hide their own valuables (this is following on from our art work and some children wanted to make their own real life sarcophagus for their precious things). Again they can use paint, clay, fabric, cardboard… indeed anything that they can think of – there are no rules!
Below are a few examples of real life sarcophagi for a bit of inspiration but we want their minds to run wild!
Please hand in your homework project on Monday 16th October ready for our Egypt day on the 18th.

We will be holding an ‘Eyptian Day’ on Wednesday 18th October where their amazing creations will be on display!

Don’t forget – if you have a show box or boxes, please bring them in next week!
