Classification Keys
We looked at how all living things are classified today and how using keys can help identify a species. We started by playing 20 questions to identify objects and classmates using only questions that could be answered with a yes or no. This led to the children producing a basic key to identify three jungle animals.
Brilliant book covers
After writing their book reviews, in art, the children had to design a new front cover for their favourite book - I can't wait to see the finished covers on Friday.
Amazing Book Reviews - Amber
The whole class wrote some incredible book reviews, this is Ambers, I'm sure you will agree it is brilliant!

Word Wizards
In Word Wizards today we carried on with our work on inference skills. This is when we read together, look for clues in the text and think deeply to answer questions.
We were able to work out (or infer) that the boy in the story went to an old, ruined castle. When he lifted a weathered stone there, he discovered a cold object. The top three suggestions for the object were: an ancient key; an diamond sword and a jewel.
Choose one of the objects and think about what might happen next in the story. Tell someone at home or school your ideas.

Year 6 illustrators come to visit
We were lucky enough to have some year 6 visitors come to show us their amazing book cover designs on Friday. They gave us lots of inspiration and top tips before we started our own book designs.
Our active names . .
To kick off our "Healthy Me" topic for PSHE we enjoyed playing Healthy Names where we had to think of an activity that began with the same letter as our name . . . We had Leaping Liam, Hurdling Hattie . . . See if you can think of even better names before we play again next week.

Orienteering
Today we learnt what orienteering is and how map reading skills are used to help pin point locations. We started with a map (badly drawn!) of the classroom and some of us had to orienteer ourselves to find hidden sweets. We then looked at a map of the school so next week we can really get stuck into real orienteering!
Predator and Prey Game
We played the predator and prey game to understand as one population increases e.g rabbits, the fox population will also increase...until they eat all the rabbits......!

Division challenge
Well done for great resilience to those who began the division challenge. Great use of times tables to help you. Remember to keep learning your times tables at home.
Negative numbers . . .
We had a look at how to understand negative numbers and imagined the sea as 0 and the negative numbers as fish under the sea.
Favourite books and book reviews
We couldn't resist sharing our favourite books with each other before beginning to write our book reviews. We read some book reviews by other children and decided we could make them much better so the purple pens were busy!

EXTRA EXTRA
Seeing as both Year 4 and Year 6 had been working on journalistic writing, we enjoyed sharing our articles together.

Word Wizards
We have been learning about inference skills and so we became 'Word Wizard Detectives' as we hunted through the text to find clues to answer questions.
We read the first part of a story which features the main character racing through a woodlands, searching for a mysterious place.
Think about the clue '...its ruined shape' from the story. What could it be describing and what might be inside? Tell someone at home or school your ideas.

Oak class Golden Time treat!
For great team work Oak class earned their treat where they cooked delicious rice crispie treats, made puppet shows, completed the Rome puzzle challenge and played board games. All this while archaeology research was going on too - it was a very busy class!
Setting up our archaeological museum
Having been inspired by Emma and Dan from ACArchaeology, some members of Oak class spent their Friday Golden Time cleaning, sorting and examining our finds from the morning. Do come and look at everything set up outside Oak class. Great archaeologists in the making!
