Fair trade detectives
We have been learning about Fair Trade and why it is so important. Farmers who grow food like bananas, coffee, tea and pineapples need to have a fair deal with the people they sell their crops to so that they, and their children, can have better food and education. Mrs Peterson did a hunt around her kitchen and didn't find she was buying as much Fair Trade food as she thought she was - not even her bananas.
So . . . could you be a Fair Trade detective and look around your kitchen and see how many things have the Fair Trade logo on them. If you go to the supermarket you could see how many Fair Trade products you can find too.
Remember . . . without the Fair Trade logo then it is not Fair Trade.

Word Wizards
In Word Wizards we discovered new facts about badgers and used this knowledge in our drama sketches. We also tackled or focus words which were 'simply,' 'smugly' and 'completely.'
Can you make up a sentence using these words correctly? Tell someone at home or school the sentences.

Oak class visits Year 5.
We were lucky to be asked to help Year 5 with their explanation texts about night and day. Everyone listened carefully to their Year 5 partner who did a great job using their writing to explain. Great listening Oak class.
Sweet senses
Sweets provided the inspiration for our poetry writing. Loads of smelling, rustling and colourful wishes as the tempting bowl of sweets appeared! We tried to remember everything Ash Dickinson told us when he visited . . .

Ash Dickinson poet visit
We all enjoyed the visit by Ash Dickinson to Year 4. His poetry performances were amazing and everyone listened so well. We were inspired to write haikus, sense poems and triolet poems. We are looking forward to improving our poetry writing over the rest of the week.

How is chocolate made?
We were looking at how the cocoa bean is turned into a chocolate bar today. We were lucky enough to have examples of everything from cocoa beans to the nib of the bean, the pod and white cocoa butter. Have a think about the 300 or so beans that go into making your chocolate bar next time you have a chocolate treat.
Y4 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Homework Project
We have finally arrived at the point in
the story where Charlie and the other children have discovered ‘The Inventing
Room’…
INVENT YOUR OWN SWEET
So, what we would like the children to do is get inventing and
come up with a brand new item of confectionary ready for Christmas ….sweet, chocolate,
lolly... absolutely anything… any flavour, any colour, any size!
Like our Egypt homework project, there are no rules- the
children can draw, make, model, colour, paint, design, stitch, use IT or even
cook their new addition to the Wonka Range! The sweet must have a name, a
description of ingredients and who it is for… and it must be linked to the
Festive Season!
The date for their projects to be
brought to school is Tuesday 13th
December which gives the children 3 weeks to come up with something amazing
so we can show them off in the run up to Christmas.

Describing the chocolate room!
Today we planned what it would be like inside The Chocolate Room in Willy Wonka's Factory. We did some freeze frames on how the children may be feeling as they entered the room and then started to think about our senses - what we could see, taste, touch, hear and smell. Tomorrow we will turn our notes into amazing writing....

What does Willy Wonka look like?
We decided to use our reading for information to good use by making up questions about Willy Wonka for the rest of the class to answer.
Magical Melting
We started looking at melting temperatures of different solids today.... Starting off with seeing what happens to chocolate when it is in our mouth - expertly modelled by Lola! We then carried out an experiment to see what effects the melting rates of butter and chocolate.

Word Wizards
Today in Word Wizards we found out about facts about foxes. We pretended to be foxes in our drama sketches so we could show the meanings of the words: 'nicely,' 'horribly,' and 'suddenly'.
Think of a fact about foxes and surprise someone at home or school with your new learning.
