Egyptian hieroglyphics are a challenge!

We began using our sketch books today by trying to write our names in hieroglyphics. What a great way to show our determination as they were really tricky to make them look good. As you can see below the progress from sketch book to final copy was amazing. We also learnt lots of other facts about Ancient Egypt and about how children lived there 5000 years ago. Lots of exciting learning lies ahead. 

Where in the world is Egypt?

We began our Ancient Egyptians topic by putting blutack on a world map where we thought Egypt was. It was quite a challenge . . . See if you can remember by showing your family where it is.

Today we started to learn to write our name the Egyptian way.... Ace stuff!

Introducing Oak class . . .

Senses walk

We introduced our science topic of sound by going on a senses in our wonderful school grounds. We even discovered an oak tree sapling that was donated to the school garden 2years ago by a member of the class. It is growing strong and tall as will the children during their time in Year 4! We will keep track of its growth through the year. We also found some acorns too . . . 

Oh the places you'll go . . . We

IWe continued looking at this book by Dr Seuss by acting out our favourite parts and being clear about expressing our opinion about the part that had been chosen. We had monsters howling at rowing boats, prickly perches when the going gets tough and finally a moving mountain!

Lots of addition . . .

We thought that it would be fun to try some addition outside. We then used lots of different ways to be successful at adding 2 numbers together. Mrs Peterson was very impressed by some of the explanation of column addition and partitioning. Great maths learning!
