Why would a Mezuzah hang slightly to the left on a door frame?

This week we will be making our own Mezuzot in class.  We will have a quiet time to reflect and write a simple family prayer.

Jewish People traditionally have many sacred items in their homes - one such item is the Mezuzah (plural Mezuzot). The name ‘Mezuzah’ refers to a scroll of parchment that is kept inside a case on almost every doorway in a Jewish home. The scroll contains a prayer comprised of verses from the Torah – a sacred Jewish text, written in Hebrew. The case that holds the scroll is often highly decorated with religious symbols.

It is usually affixed at least two thirds up on the door frame.

This week's challenge is to learn the French colours...

Another thought....

What do you think about this? Remember to have a go, do not give up!   Discuss it with someone...

What makes someone ready to learn?

Our class rules on a scroll

Today we were making a scroll, with all our class rules. We had discussed and watched a clip about how the Torah is extremely important to Jewish people. It contains the principles and rules by which Jewish people live their lives.

How is Christianity different from Judaism?

We discussed today how Judaism differed from Christianity. Daniel said that we both believe in God, so how is it different?

Christianity came to regard Jesus as in some sense God's presence in human form. This was unacceptable to most Jews.

Judaism is defined by a covenant made between God and the Jewish people. Part of this covenant is the Law, a set of religious and ethical rules and principles. Most Christians came to believe that this was replaced by Jesus' teaching.

Superstar!

Can anyone draw this star with a ruler?

What 5 rules would you make if you were in the desert for 3 months, with 100 people?

We have been thinking about rules, and why we need them. Moses gave the Jewish people 10 commandments from God. We shared our thoughts about which ones would be the hardest to keep! Great discussion and thinking Oak class.

Bonjour!

We were learning how to write in French today! We are also able to hold a simple conversation!

Writing sentences with homophones

We have been writing sentences using homophones. Mrs Heenan is being strict and making us think about where we start our letters (from the line).  Well done Jason!
